The Integration Project

Before the lockdown I was working with an amazing organisation whose purpose was to help the integration of refugee women after their entrance into the UK. I worked with them through a project called “translation” which collaborated with the Belgrade Theatre to help the women communicate with each other through different forms of art. The women in the group would meet up weekly, some with their children and sing, dance and create. It was such an eye opening experience meeting women I would never normally meet and listening to stories unfold while creating such beauty. At the end of the project, an exhibition of all the art work created was held at the Belgrade Theatre. We performed a piece of theatre, showing our separate daily lives and how we can cross each other's paths, whilst others sang. We talked, listened, laughed and went our separate ways. I had formed friendships with both those a part of the group and those that volunteered. I hope I can be a part of something like it again some day, but for now here are some pictures taken at the exhibition.
