For a project at university, we were given a photojournalist we didn't know, hand picked from all over the world to create a 5 picture photo essay inspired by their work. I was assigned Narayan Vinayak Vikar (born in 1890 in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra), a photographer known for chronicling the freedom struggle in India, particularly the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. I was inspired by the portraiture he created of important figures of this time, like Jawaharlal Nehruand Abdul Ghaffar Khan. Through this, I decided to photograph important figures of our time: key-workers, and created the following work.
