On Sunday 7th June 2020, I attended the Coventry Black Lives Matter Protest held in Godiva Square. Initially we all congregated together, socially distanced, whilst guest speakers took to a podium in the centre of the square, then we all knelt for a two minute silence. Soon after we took to the ring road where we marched the streets of the city, thoroughly supported by passers by. Boards used for traffic notices showed their solidarity throughout the march. It was at this point that I met Jean, a grandmother who was beneficial to the early civil rights movements in Coventry. She told me about her "years of efforts, trying to get a turnout like this" and felt so overwhelmed by the amount of people who showed up, of all different backgrounds. We spent the whole march together and I eventually got to meet her grandson who was so proud of his grandmother.
